This year marks the centenary of the birth of Miguel Delibes (1920-2010), one of the most important writers in the Spanish language in the Twentieth century. From his extensive narrative works, of which it is worth mentioning titles like Cinco horas con Mario, Los santos inocentes or El hereje, I have chosen El camino (1950) for various reasons. It is a warmhearted and easy to read novel that exhibits characteristics that, over the years, would become unmistakable features of his personal narrative style. Rural life, Castilian landscape, and childhood come to life through the friendship of three boys in mid-Twentieth century Spain.
